This series is incomplete. It consists of unbound case papers filed in criminal proceedings held in the U.S. District Court for the Territory of Dakota seated at Vermillion. The cases brought on grand jury indictment or bill of complaint related chiefly to forfeiture of bonds, perjury, timber trespass, and violation of revenue laws governing the manufacture and sale of tobacco and alcohol products. Documents filed with the individual cases are limited to bills of indictment or complaint, demurrers to indictments, defendant's appearance bonds, and recognizances, subpoenas, warrants, verdicts, sentences and nolle prosequi notices. Case files within this series do not contain transcripts of testimony or depositions of witnesses.
